Not sure which one you need?
Most people arrive knowing the problem rather than the solution. The kitchen is too small, the back of the house is dark, or there is one bedroom short. Which type of extension answers that depends on the plot, the ground and what the house already is.
On a Victorian terrace the answer is usually a side return. On a 1930s semi it is usually a single storey rear, or a loft if the bedrooms are the issue. On a detached house with room to the side there are more options and the planning position matters more.
